There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. A special shoutout goes to Hattiesburg's senior Jarod Conner, who scored six total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Can't Touch This
Hattiesburg's 56 - 14 win over Stone last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Jarod Conner. Conner earned four touchdowns and 248 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Conner as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Starkville and Northwest Rankin, 3rd and 4th in the power rankings, respectively. Victory was within reach, but Starkville ultimately lost 27 - 20 to Northwest Rankin. As a result, Starkville fell two positions in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
It isn't too difficult to come out on top when you enjoy a 210-yard edge over your opponent, and D'Iberville had just that last week. It blew past Ocean Springs 49 - 28. One of the main ringleaders for D'Iberville was junior Jaden Walley, who ran for 214 yards and also punched in one touchdown. At 77 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Oak Grove (13th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Meridian (27th). Oak Grove will be strutting in after a win while Meridian will be stumbling in from a defeat. We'll see if Oak Grove can add another positive mark to its record or if Meridian can shake off its loss and take the spring out of Oak Grove's step.
