Basketball Recap: Decatur Community Falls Despite Big Games from Tyler Ostmeyer and Caden Shaw

Decatur Community lost against Logan/Palco back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Decatur Community Red Devils lost to Logan/Palco on the road by a 40-26 margin. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Logan/Palco are ranked tenth).

Decatur Community's loss came despite strong showings from Caden Shaw and Tyler Ostmeyer. Shaw posted nine points and six rebounds, while Ostmeyer put up six points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. Ostmeyer is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brycen Ketterl, who had ten points.

Rhett Kats continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Logan/Palco, going 8 of 19 on his way to 20 points along with seven boards and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Kats has scored at least a third of Logan/Palco's points. Caleb Sparks was another key player, putting up six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Decatur Community and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Logan/Palco, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Decatur Community will venture away from home to take on Oakley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Logan/Palco, they will host Lakeside at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Logan/Palco is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
