Cambria Heights' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nolan Clawson, who rushed for 118 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. Clawson also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making eight total tackles and defending one pass. Cambria Heights also got help from Brayden DeArmitt, who showed off his sure hands for 128 receiving yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cambria Heights was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 201 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Another reason for the win was Cambria Heights' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Colton Strong and Roman Eckenrode, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last game, Marion Center made sure to put some points up on the board against Penns Manor on Friday. The Stingers were the clear victors by a 41-20 margin over the Comets. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Stingers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Comets are ranked 312th).
Cambria Heights better keep an eye on Camden Rising. He was instrumental in Marion Center's win, rushing for 92 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 221 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 passes. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Rising a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Troy Slovinsky, who picked up 89 receiving yards and two scores.
Cambria Heights' record is now 9-1. As for Marion Center, their record now sits at an identical 9-1.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Clawson and Rising. Clawson just won't slow down this season and has averaged 21.9 passing yards per game. Rising has been a dominant force too and has thrown 21 touchdowns while averaging 207.4 passing yards per game.
Cambria Heights and Marion Center were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played back in September, but Cambria Heights suffered an agonizing 26-25 defeat. Can the Highlanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
