South Salem faced Bend in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Saxons came out on top against the Lava Bears by a score of  2-0. The  victory was familiar territory for the Saxons, who have now won three  matches in a row.
 South Salem easily took the first set, but they let things get interesting in the other. The final score came out to 25-15,  25-19.
 Briella Mathis paced South Salem's offense, picking up nine kills. Mathis got some help from  Kamree Orizotti and her 23 assists. Orizotti also made an impact serving:  she shared the team lead in aces with  Ellenia Setzer, each putting up three.
South Salem's win bumped their record up to 24-7-1. As for Bend,  with the  defeat, they broke their seven-match winning streak and moved their record to 17-7.
 South Salem wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next  contest,  a  2-0  victory against South Eugene on the 18th. As for Bend, they will head out to  face off against Summit  at 6:30  p.m.  on Tuesday.
