Baseball Recap: Middle College Takes a Loss

After flying high against Craigmont last Tuesday, Middle College came back down to earth. The Bulldogs took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southwind Jaguars on Wednesday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2019.

Shawn Herring put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times he's played.

Middle College's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Southwind, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Middle College will square off against Kirby at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Southwind, they will welcome Overton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
