The Waverly Wolverines gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They skirted past Seton Catholic Central 52-50. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Waverly also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2017.
Several Saints players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Allan Eagles, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Eagles has scored all season. Johnny Hopf was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds.
Waverly's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waverly will be home for the holidays to greet Chenango Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Chenango Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Seton Catholic Central will be home for the holidays to greet Owego Free Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Owego Free Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
