The Gillespie Miners will face off against the Carrollton Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Things were looking good for Gillespie after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Pawnee by a score of 8-7.
Sadie Sholtis put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Sholtis was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Delaney Taylor and Ava Parish stepped up to the plate in a big way. Taylor went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double, while Parish went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Paxton Reid, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Carrollton gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lincolnwood a 6-0 shutout.
Lincolnwood's batters probably weren't too happy with Hannah Uhles, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Those 14 strikeouts gave Uhles a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Lauren Flowers and Brookelyn Eilerman did most of the damage at the plate: Flowers scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Eilerman went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. The dominant performance gave Eilerman a new career-high in doubles. Another player making a difference was Vanna Holmes, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Everything went Gillespie's way against Carrollton in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Gillespie made off with a 16-9 win. Does Gillespie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Carrollton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
