The result came thanks to Olivia Dollard's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gianna Galarza, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Archbishop Mitty's offense. They fell just short of Valley Christian by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Monarchs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Kyleigh Mace was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched.
At the plate, Archbishop Mitty saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adelle Duncan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Duncan has snagged this season.
Archbishop Mitty's loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-6-1. As for St. Ignatius College Preparatory, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Ignatius College Preparatory has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Archbishop Mitty struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
St. Ignatius College Preparatory came up short against Archbishop Mitty in their previous meeting back in April, falling 4-0. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
