Mary Peyton Hodge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Oak Grove's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isabelle Lawrence, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Abby Cruz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Rockingham County took on Piedmont on Tuesday. The Cougars blew past the Panthers 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 19 games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Rockingham County also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Ava Grace Pruitt gave up only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Macey Hardy was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Zoey Snead was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Rockingham County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.
Oak Grove pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Rockingham County, their record is now 23-1.
Everything went Oak Grove's way against Rockingham County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Oak Grove made off with a 9-0 victory. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
