Friendship Christian hit Springfield with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Yellow Jackets lost 11-1 to the Commanders. The Yellow Jackets' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Springfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Damarion Mimms, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeast). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Kenwood on Thursday.
Jackson Meece made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Isaiah Robinson was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Jamarion Green was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles.
Northeast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Northeast's record is now 12-15. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.
Springfield couldn't quite finish off Northeast when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
