The Sugar Valley Rural Phoenix will head out to challenge the Canton Warriors at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sugar Valley Rural is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Muncy on Monday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. The Phoenix's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Bentley Andrus was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Brody Swanger, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canton). They walked away with a 15-10 victory over Williamson on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for Canton.
Holden Ward was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Zach Colton was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Bailey Gardner was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Canton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sugar Valley Rural's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Canton, their record is now 5-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sugar Valley Rural has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Canton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
