The Lawson Lightning will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Goodpasture Christian Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, everything went Lawson's way against Cheatham County Central as Lawson made off with a 14-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lightning.
Henry Sheaffer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Lawson let Mario Craig and C.J. Thornton run wild. Craig went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Thornton went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Thornton has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Elliot Swihart, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Lawson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheatham County Central only posted an OBP of .182.
Meanwhile, Goodpasture Christian got themselves on the board against Brentwood Academy on Tuesday, but Brentwood Academy never followed suit. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 4-0.
Luke Vierkant looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Sam Osborne was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
Lawson came up short against Goodpasture Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 6-1. Can Lawson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
