Towanda dropped their record down to 9-7 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Troy Trojans, falling 11-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in April.
Towanda saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Tavani, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Wil Shrawder was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
As for Troy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Troy's side, Reed Palmer made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Palmer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brendan Gilliland, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Woodward, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Towanda didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-4 victory against Cowanesque Valley on the 12th. As for Troy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 16-0 win against Canton on the 10th.
