The Rio Linda Knights''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 16-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Woodland. Rio Linda lost against Woodland in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 28-8 score last time.
Samuel Taylor threw for 92 yards and a touchdown. Kevin Smith was his top target, picking up 75 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Diego Bautista, who gained 158 total yards. Woodland also got a significant boost from Gavin Grisso, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.
Rio Linda's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Woodland, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Linda will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Pioneer at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Pioneer presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rio Linda in California (Pioneer is ranked 372nd, while Rio Linda is ranked 770th). As for Woodland, they will head out on the road to face off against Mesa Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mesa Verde will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
