The Sulphur Bluff Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 22 points or more this season. They blew past Savoy 58-35. The score was close at the half, but Sulphur Bluff pulled away in the second half with 32 points.
Sulphur Bluff's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Overly, who scored 20 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Gunn, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Sulphur Bluff has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Savoy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Sulphur Bluff will be home for the holidays to greet Bloomburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bloomburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1613th, while Sulphur Bluff is ranked 741st). As for Savoy, they will head out on the road to face off against Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
