The Lucas Cubs pushed their score all the way to 61 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Crestview. While losing is never fun, Lucas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 384th, while Crestview is ranked 112th).
Lucas lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Gabe Porter, who scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Porter has scored all season. Zac Winters was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lucas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Lucas and nudges their season record down to 9-3. As for Crestview, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
Lucas will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against St. Peter's at 7:15 p.m. on January 26th. St. Peter's is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Crestview will take on Monroeville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Monroeville and Crestview are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
