The Leroy Greene Academy Lions pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-57 bruising from Elite. While losing is never fun, Leroy Greene Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 991st, while Elite is ranked 424th).
When it comes to explaining why Leroy Greene Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cobee Wesley. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with four steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Wesley posted two or more blocks. Andrew Moralez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elite to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lemack Bellot, who scored 19 points. Bellot's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Maisen McCleod, who scored 17 points.
Leroy Greene Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which lines up perfectly with their 4-12 record this season. As for Elite, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leroy Greene Academy will take on Westlake Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Westlake Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday. Elite on the road again on Thursday and play against John Adams Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th.
