The Winter Springs Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Wekiva at home and fell 58-23. While losing is never fun, Winter Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while Wekiva is ranked 119th).
Despite the loss, Winter Springs still got an impressive performance from Soraya Jokhan, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Summer Mason was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Winter Springs struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wekiva posted 17 assists.
Wekiva got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tierra Coleman out in front who scored 16 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Bell, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Winter Springs' loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-11. As for Wekiva, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winter Springs won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lyman at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th.
