The Waelder Wildcats had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Pettus on Tuesday as Waelder made off with a 69-49 win. Waelder might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Pettus' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ramon Reyna, who scored 20 points. The matchup was Reyna's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Guajardo, who scored 12 points.
Waelder's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Pettus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Waelder will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Austwell-Tivoli at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Austwell-Tivoli is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Pettus will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Odem at 8:30 a.m. on December 29th.
