Even though The Shawnee Mission South Raiders scored an imposing 40 points on Friday, the Olathe South Falcons still came out on top. It was a tight match that could have gone either way, but Olathe South made off with a 41-40 win over Shawnee Mission South. The win made it back-to-back wins for Olathe South.
Bryce Noernberg continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 191 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 215 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes. Noernberg was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Cooper Warren was in the mix as well, providing Olathe South with two touchdowns.
Shawnee Mission South's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Grant Jennings, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and also threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Jennings is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played. Ben Johnson was another key contributor, gaining 139 total yards and three touchdowns.
Olathe South has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Shawnee Mission South, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Olathe South will face off against Gardner-Edgerton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gardner-Edgerton comes into the match much higher ranked than Olathe South in Kansas (Gardner-Edgerton is ranked third, while Olathe South is ranked 48th). As for Shawnee Mission South, they will head out on the road to face off against Olathe West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Olathe West is ranked 96th, while Shawnee Mission South is ranked 98th).
