Hawthorne has gone a perfect 10-0 against Eastern Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Bears will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eastern Christian's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Hawthorne hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Bears' pitchers stepped up to hand Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won five in a row.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Eastern Christian challenged Manchester Regional on Tuesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Allison VandeVrede was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. VandeVrede was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Avery Conrad looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Hannah Leegwater was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Elliana Algarin, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Eastern Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manchester Regional struck out seven times.
Eastern Christian pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Hawthorne, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-2.
Hawthorne took their victory against Eastern Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
