Even though the Memphis Cyclones scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, the Wheeler Mustangs still came out on top. Wheeler took down Memphis 69-55. Given Wheeler's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while Memphis is ranked 1299th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Memphis' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abel Villa, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Villa hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Ryder Robison was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Wheeler has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which somehow isn't as good as their 16-5 record this season. As for Memphis, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
Wheeler will be playing at home against Quanah at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Memphis, they will head out on the road to face off against Shamrock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shamrock comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
