Softball Recap: Hueytown Wins Going Away Against Bessemer City

Hueytown got themselves on the board against Bessemer City on Wednesday, but Bessemer City never followed suit. They blew past the Tigers 16-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 20-0 on Wednesday.

Gracelyn McCarrell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on K Kennedy, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

Hueytown hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Hueytown pushed their record up to 20-13 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Bessemer City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Coming up, Hueytown will be playing in front of their home fans against Jasper at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Golden Gophers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bessemer City, they are taking a road trip to challenge McAdory at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
