The Ovid-Elsie Marauders will head out to face off against the Breckenridge Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ovid-Elsie has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ovid-Elsie's last matchup with Birch Run could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. The Marauders lost 16-1 to the Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Marauders couldn't push the score so high this time.
Ovid-Elsie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley McClung, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was McClung's first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Breckenridge, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out St. Charles 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted since April 19, 2024.
Adyson Collins made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Breckenridge got a massive performance out of Emma Tinson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Tinson has posted since April 4th. Another player making a difference was Ava Colthorp, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
The victory got Breckenridge back to even at 6-6. As for Ovid-Elsie, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Ovid-Elsie suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Breckenridge in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Can the Marauders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
