The Estrella Foothills Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Peoria Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Estrella Foothills was handed a two-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Goldwater on Tuesday. Estrella Foothills claimed a resounding 83-8 win over Goldwater on the road. Given Estrella Foothills' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Goldwater is ranked 245th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Estrella Foothills got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alina Bowden out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 20 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Omareeya Brown, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals.
Meanwhile, Peoria waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They blew past Agua Fria, posting a 43-15 win at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Peoria has posted since November 21, 2023.
Peoria's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Harmony Re, who scored ten points along with two steals, and Michelle Kogbara, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 19 rebounds. Re is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.
Estrella Foothills' win bumped their record up to 19-3. As for Peoria, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5.
Estrella Foothills came up short against Peoria when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 55-42. Can Estrella Foothills avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
