Annandale is on a three-game streak of home losses, Osbourn a nine-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Annandale Atoms will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Osbourn Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Annandale might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Fairfax an easy 64-42 victory. Annandale has struggled against Fairfax recently, as their game last Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Annandale saw an underclassman step up: Ava Sewall scored 19 points. Sewall scored a full 45.2% of Annandale's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Susan Aburish , who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 54-20, which was the final score in Osbourn's tilt against Battlefield on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Osbourn can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while Battlefield is ranked 117th).
Annandale's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Osbourn, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3-1.
