Kennesaw Mountain is 3-0 against Wheeler since November of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wheeler Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Kennesaw Mountain comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 38-7, which was the final score in Kennesaw Mountain's tilt against North Cobb on Friday. While losing is never fun, Kennesaw Mountain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 207th, while North Cobb is ranked 18th).
Despite the defeat, Kennesaw Mountain got a solid performance out of Jeremiah Tatum, who rushed for 90 yards on only nine carries.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Wheeler ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 17-10 win over Osborne. The victory was just what Wheeler needed coming off of a 63-27 defeat in their prior contest.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheeler to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marcus Romain, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 46 yards and a touchdown. Wheeler also got a significant boost from Josiah Allen, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 93 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Osborne to a paltry two yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Wheeler's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Elijah Muhammad and Shamar Yarber who racked up four sacks between them.
Kennesaw Mountain's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 3.3 points per game. As for Wheeler, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Kennesaw Mountain skirted past Wheeler 38-35 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Kennesaw Mountain repeat their success, or does Wheeler have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
