2A Patriot recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Valley, who took down 125th ranked Valley, 27-21. Cody Lechman ran for 264 yards in the win.
Brush's Kyle Rosenbrock rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A Patriot this season in his game against University last week. Rosenbrock ran for 93 yards on the play and finished with 214 on the day as his team beat the Bulldogs.
Fort Lupton's dynamic duo of Giovanni Covarrubias and Jalen Vasquez proved tough for Eaton to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Covarrubias threw for 140 yards and three touchdowns and Vasquez had 70 yards receiving. Marcos Lenox helped Fort Lupton's passing attack out by catching three balls for 57 yards.
Alec Peterson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Brush topped University. The sophomore forced one fumble and recorded one fumble.
The Blue Devils' Jeff Merritt and Vasquez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Merritt has thrown for 766 yards this season, while Vasquez, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 26 catches for 469 yards. Austin Ekeler from the Reds leads the league in rushing with 1111 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Vikings take on Eaton. Valley is in fifth place, while Bill Mondt's team is in first place.
The Reds extended the longest winning streak in 2A Patriot this week by beating Fort Lupton, 51-23. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
