2A Conference 12 recap October 8, 2013
Qualik Shearin of Southern Vance ran for the longest rushing play in 2A Conference 12 this season against Ben L. Smith last week. Shearin's team fell to the Golden Eagles as he sprinted for 65 yards on the play and finished with 89 in all.
Fans got a thrill when Jerry Throckmorton and Shawn Henderson connected against Ben L. Smith. The connection was good for 90 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Sean Bowman provided a threat through the air and on the ground as South Granville bested East Wake. Bowman's favorite target this week was Abraham Barron, who caught 4 passes for 78 yards.
Bowman was a force in the backfield as the Vikings beat the Warriors.
Bowman was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 38 carries, he ran for 248 yards as South Granville fell to Antonio Kirkpatrick's team. Teammate Greg McCalop added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.
On the heels of Matt McCutcheon and Bowman, Mike Hobgood's team has had great success on offense. McCutcheon leads the league in passing with 886 yards, while Bowman has rushed for 1,126 yards this season. Lewis Young's team's Henderson leads the league in receiving yards with 304 on 9 catches.
The top two teams in 2A Conference 12 will face off this week when first place South Granville takes on second place Franklinton. The Vikings defeated East Wake last week, while Franklinton fell to Corinth Holders.
South Granville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating John Poulnott's team, 45-33. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
