Yelm has enjoyed the comforts of home their last six games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Bellevue Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Yelm rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 7-0.
Brayden Platt was on fire: he rushed for 219 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Platt was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 54 yards.
Another reason for the win was Yelm's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Kenji Scanlan and Isaiah Patterson who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Bellevue faced O'Dea in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bellevue snuck past O'Dea with a 21-17 victory on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for Bellevue who now have ten in a row.
Bellevue can attribute much of their success to Carson Rubin, who rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Yelm's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.0 points per game. As for Bellevue, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Yelm barely slipped by Bellevue when the teams last played back in November of 2022, winning 28-27. Does Yelm have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bellevue turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
