Highland Tech is 2-8 against Thomas Jefferson since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Highland Tech Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Thomas Jefferson Gryphons at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Highland Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
Even though Highland Tech has not done well against Bessemer City recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Highland Tech came out on top against Bessemer City by a score of 50-39. The score was all tied up 25-25 at the break, but Highland Tech was the better team in the second half.
It was another big night for Elijah Sherrill, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Whitted, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Shelby, falling 70-42. While losing is never fun, Thomas Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 410th, while Shelby is ranked 184th).
Highland Tech's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Thomas Jefferson, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Highland Tech was able to grind out a solid victory over Thomas Jefferson when the teams last played on January 5th, winning 64-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Highland Tech since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
