Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2014, but not for long. The Paso Robles Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Arroyo Grande Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Paso Robles is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Paso Robles came up short against Nipomo and fell 34-21.
Despite the loss, Paso Robles got a solid performance out of Conner Bowman, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Arroyo Grande had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They really took it to Santa Ynez for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-24 victory on the road. Given Arroyo Grande's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Santa Ynez is ranked 562nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Arroyo Grande got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ben Walz out in front who rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Caleb Clark was in the mix too, providing Arroyo Grande with three touchdowns.
Nipomo's win bumped their season record to 4-5 while Paso Robles' defeat dropped theirs to 2-7.
Everything went Paso Robles' way against Arroyo Grande in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as Paso Robles made off with a 35-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paso Robles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
