The Wakefield Bombers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 22nd straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 67-9 defeat at the hands of Washington County. While losing is never fun, Wakefield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 320th, while Washington County is ranked 79th).
Despite the loss, Wakefield still got an impressive performance from Eli Ponton, who scored four points along with seven rebounds. Ponton scored a full 44.4% of Wakefield's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Wakefield bumped their record down to 0-3 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Washington County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wakefield will square off against Pike Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Pike Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday. As for Washington County, they will head out on the road to face off against Blue Valley on Saturday.
