The Troy Flying Horses's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 72-56 bruising from Niskayuna. While losing is never fun, Troy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 481st, while the Silver Warriors are ranked 28th).
Despite the defeat, Troy saw an underclassman step up: Stetson Merritt scored 31 points. That was a full 55.4% of Troy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Legend Merritt was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Troy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Niskayuna, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-3.
Troy will head out on the road to take on the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Niskayuna, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Bison at 7:00 p.m. Shaker knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully the Silver Warriors likes a good challenge.
