Charleston (Mo.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 16 points, drop to 10 before the final whistle blew on a 16-6 victory over
Dexter (Mo.).
After taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, the Bluejays led 16-0 at the half.
Charleston saw its 16-point halftime lead fall to 10 entering the fourth.
The Bearcats' lone touchdown came on a 20-yard pass from
DJ Dowdy to
Chase Young in the third quarter.
Coming into the game CHS had allowed 18.8 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Dexter below its season average of 10.2 points scored per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which DHS took, 47-0.
With the win Charleston extended its winning streak to four games.
Dexter (1-6) goes up against Central in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Charleston (5-2) locks horns with East Prairie also in a non-conference game.
