Baseball Recap: Neumann-Goretti Has No Trouble Against Archbishop Carroll

Neumann-Goretti had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Archbishop Carroll on Wednesday. The Saints blew past the Patriots 12-2. That looming 12-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Saints yet this season.

Neumann-Goretti got a great performance from Johnluca LaSpada as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. LaSpada also put up two walks, which were his first of the season.

At the plate, Nick Coccia and Nicky Genzano did most of the damage at the plate: Coccia scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Genzano scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave Coccia a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Richie Rosati, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Neumann-Goretti has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop Carroll, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Neumann-Goretti is set to take on their familiar foe La Salle College at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Saints 3.3, the Explorers 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Archbishop Carroll will square off against rival Conwell-Egan Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
