The Norfolk Panthers won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They suffered a rough 59-37 defeat at the hands of Lincoln Southwest. While losing is never fun, Norfolk can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Lincoln Southwest is ranked 19th).
When it comes to explaining why Norfolk lost, one person who can't be blamed is Skylar Indra. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points. Russell Aubrey was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Leading Lincoln Southwest to victory were Kallen Stauffer and Eleanor Griffin. Stauffer scored 15 points along with two steals, while Griffin scored 15 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stauffer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennadi Williams, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Norfolk's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Lincoln Southwest, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Norfolk will take on Lincoln High at TBD on Thursday. As for Lincoln Southwest, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lincoln North Star at 3:00 p.m. on February 10th. Lincoln Southwest is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
