Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Southwest SD

Southwest SD came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hoover Cardinals a 17-0 shutout. 17 seems to be a good number for the Raiders as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Daniela Nieto made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Samantha Ramirez was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. Aketzalli Rodriguez was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Southwest SD was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Southwest SD pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hoover, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwest SD will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Kearny at 3:30 p.m. on April 9. As for Hoover, they will square off against Monte Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
