The Newcomb Skyhawks had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Crownpoint with a 35-31 win on Friday. The win was just what Newcomb needed coming off of a 62-31 loss in their prior game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newcomb to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lethia Yazzie, who scored 14 points. Nevaeh Miller was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Newcomb pushed their record up to 9-9 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Crownpoint, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newcomb will take on Zuni at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Zuni has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Crownpoint, they will head out on the road to square off against Navajo Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Navajo Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Crownpoint likes a good challenge.
