The North Sevier Wolves will challenge the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Sevier is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, North Sevier came up short against Grand County and fell 9-4.
North Sevier saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Jensen, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gunnison Valley). Everything went their way against Monticello on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-2 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Landry Edwards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Gunnison Valley got a massive performance out of Peyton Sanders, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI Sanders has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Jensen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Gunnison Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .551. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monticello only posted an OBP of .192.
Gunnison Valley's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for North Sevier, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Sevier has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gunnison Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
North Sevier suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Gunnison Valley when the teams last played back in March. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
