Even though the Mauldin Mavericks scored an imposing 68 points on Saturday, the Clover Blue Eagles still came out on top. Clover took their contest against Mauldin 78-68. This was payback for Clover, who suffered a 74-51 loss the last time these two teams met.
Clover's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Allen, who scored 21 points. That's the first time this season that Allen scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Hoover, who scored 13 points.
Mauldin lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Braden Hershberger, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Hershberger's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Nathan Wilbourne was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Clover has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. As for Mauldin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clover will challenge Nation Ford at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Nation Ford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Clover likes a good challenge. Mauldin is on the road again on Tuesday and play against T.L. Hanna at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. T.L. Hanna presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mauldin in South Carolina (T.L. Hanna is ranked ninth, while Mauldin is ranked 83rd).
