The Luling Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Poth Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Luling knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Poth likes a good challenge.
On Tuesday, Luling beat Nixon-Smiley 10-7. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Luling got a great performance from Nedeyin Magallanez as she struck out 17 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those 17 strikeouts gave Magallanez a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hazel Bohac, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Peyton Taylor also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poth). They were the clear victors by a 26-1 margin over Stockdale on Tuesday. Considering the Pirates have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Abby Skloss looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, Brevyn Brockman was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kynzlie Gaylor, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.
Poth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stockdale only posted an OBP of .214.
Poth's record is now 18-6. As for Luling, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Poth's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Luling has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Poth, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Luling keep running through batters, or will the Pirates buck the trend?
Luling suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Poth in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
