Maryville Christian extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 16-9 in the process. They blew past the Midway Green Wave 18-3. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ryder Storm made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Noah Ellis was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. Mattox Smith was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Maryville Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Midway only posted an OBP of .259.
As for Midway, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-17-1 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.
On Midway's side, Rowynn McClure was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, McClure gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Midway saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dawson Buckner, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Maryville Christian will head out on the road to square off against Washburn at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Midway, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-2 win against Rockwood on the 23rd.
