4A Mideastern recap Oct. 16, 2012
New Bern extended the longest winning streak in 4A Mideastern this week by beating Ashley, 55-0. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Bears.
New Bern took down Ashley 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Josh Taylor threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 61 yards in the win.
Quincy Rhodes was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 91 yards on 23 carries as Tom Eanes' team defeated Tom Eanes' team. Teammate Anthony Andrews added to the ground attack by rushing for 30 yards.
Powell was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bears bested Ashley. Powell racked up two receptions for 82 yards. Bra'lon Cherry helped New Bern's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
New Bern's Taylor and Cherry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Mideastern in both passing and receiving yards. Taylor has thrown for 1633 yards this season, while Cherry, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 23 catches for 490 yards. Rhodes from Ashley leads the league in rushing with 1318 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Laney takes on the Bears. As it stands, the Buccaneers are in fourth, while New Bern is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Laney and the Bears face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Greg Ditz's team comes in having scored 228 this season, while New Bern has scored 378. The Buccaneers scored 14 points last week as they lost to New Hanover.
Rose made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,077 from 4,591. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 34-7 victory over the Rampants last week.
