I Sunset - Southwest recap Sept. 26, 2012
Bishop Gorman's Nathan Starks recorded the longest rushing play in I Sunset - Southwest this season in his game against Servite last week. Starks' team topped the Friars as he sprinted for 81 yards on the play and finished with 177 in all.
Cimarron-Memorial suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 21-13 loss to Las Vegas. The Spartans had been ranked 21st, but fell to 26 following the defeat.
Bishop Gorman's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Anu Solomon threw for 256 and one touchdown and Ryan Smith had 86 yards receiving. Terrance Chambers helped Bishop Gorman's passing attack out by catching five balls for 49 yards.
Tony Sanchez's team's Solomon and Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Solomon has thrown for 969 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 14 catches for 331 yards. Cimarron-Memorial's Justin Davis leads the league in rushing yards with 630.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Gaels and Legacy. Bishop Gorman comes into the matchup ranked first in the state, while the Longhorns ranks 12th.
Legacy took down Spring Valley 68-19 last week, the largest margin of any game.
