The Winneconne Wolves will venture away from home to challenge the Wautoma Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Winneconne beat Weyauwega-Fremont 7-3. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Warhawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Broderick Stille was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Noah Bouras also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Wautoma had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Green Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted against the Green Devils since April 19, 2022.
Carson Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brady Abitz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ben Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Winneconne picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-5. As for Wautoma, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Winneconne has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wautoma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Winneconne couldn't quite get it done against Wautoma in their previous matchup back in May of 2021 as they fell 7-4. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
