Basketball Recap: Crystal City Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Poteet two weeks ago, Crystal City came back down to earth. The Crystal City Javelinas took a 77-63 bruising from the Lytle Pirates on Friday. The Javelinas were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Crystal City lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jayden Rousseau, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 14 points and three steals. Rousseau has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Dakota Rivera was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Crystal City was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lytle only racked up six assists.

It was another big night for Chase Guevara, who dropped a double-double on 38 points and 13 boards for Lytle. Those 38 points gave Guevara a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Pierce, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 boards.

Crystal City's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-7. As for Lytle, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8.

Crystal City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 70-59 victory against Hondo on the 7th. As for Lytle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 82-46 win against Natalia on the 7th.
