Jones has gone a perfect 4-0 against Proviso East recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Pirates at 10:00 a.m. Jones is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.8 runs per game this season.
While Jones didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Chicago Academy with a sharp 18-1 win on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Anna Black made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Black was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jamilette Hernandez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Julissa Galvez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Jones always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chicago Academy only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Proviso East lost 21-1 to Chicago Hope Academy last Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly 20 runs.
Proviso East dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Jones, their record is now 9-1.
Proviso East's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jones hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .458. It's a different story for Proviso East, though, as they've only averaged .138. Will they be able to contain Jones' hitters?
Jones came out on top in a nail-biter against Proviso East in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 12-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
