Basketball Recap: Willcox Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Willcox won the last time they faced St. Augustine Catholic and things went their way on Thursday too. The Willcox Cowboys took down the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves 54-40. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.

Defeat or not, St. Augustine Catholic got some senior leadership from Megan Callahan and Lourdes Gamez. Callahan went 10 of 21 on her way to 24 points and three steals, while Gamez posted eight points along with ten rebounds and four steals. Callahan's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Preciado, who put up four points in addition to ten boards and four blocks.

Willcox pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for St. Augustine Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-7.

Willcox and Morenci will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Empire at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
