Baseball Recap: Falkner Snags 12th Victory in Last 14 Games

Falkner hadn't beaten Hickory Flat on the road since April 18, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. Falkner was the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over Hickory Flat. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Asa Childs made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Childs was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Falkner let Gavin Wooley and Jackson Jordan run wild. Wooley went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Jordan went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Wooley also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Myles Mitchell, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Falkner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

Falkner has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. Hickory Flat's loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Falkner Eagles duke it out with Myrtle Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hickory Flat, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Hatley at 1:00 p.m.
